Dan Zanes would have to be the catcher and the Black Twig Pickers would have to be playing in between the innings!

Dan Zanes promises on his website that when you listen to his music (collaborations, really) you will sing your heart out and dance your tail off!  This is a great description of a Dan Zanes concert (from what we have heard) and any one of his cds.  Of all the children’s musicians, we have more Dan Zanes cds than any other group.

We do not own The Welcome Table, Zanes’ most recent effort.  See the reason in a blog below.  However, we recently caught a show on XM Kids Place Live, where many of these new songs were played.  It will definitely be our September First Pay Day Treat!  I think it will be worth waiting for.  Until then, we will keep listening to samples from his interactive website, www.festivalfive.comand to the 6 other Dan Zanes cds!  These cds, such as Catch That Train and House Party, are fun and entertaining for everyone in the family.  There are always old familiars, and new collaborations on old tune that are not as easily remembered.  Zanes and crew connect the listener to the power of a song, and the meaning and movement found there as well.

The Black Twig Pickershave been providing the Donahues with our own soundtrack for a few years now.  The Twigs joke that they can’t open up their instrument cases without us showing up!  You know the scenes in “There’s Something About Mary,” where Jonathan Richman keeps showing up - playing a guitar in a tree or on the road.  That’s what the Black Twig Pickers do for us.  Downtown Roanoke, Floyd Country Store, or just in a park somewhere, the Twigs can’t be beat!    These traditional, old back porch songs are invigorating, and can be found on their newest cd - Hobo Handshake.  You should see the families dance at their shows.  Old men tromp, ladies swing their long skirts, and the kids just flat-foot their way to the dance floor.

Mike G. would cover third base.  Isak H. could play short stop and Nathan B. could play first base, the kazookie, fiddlesticks, banjo, and the bass.  Call in a few ghost-men, or you could send in your favorite musicians to fill in the blanks!  Thanks for joining us for Children’s Music Week here at www.kidsadventuring.org.  With a line up like this, now we can play some ball!  Best to all.
