Now… I must say that I stand with David Sobel on his reminder that we MUST teach our children to love the world around them before we can ask them to save it. His many writings have helped me to understand the balance between teaching kids to appreciate nature and asking their help in solving the ecological crisis.
Last week, Ashley and I were able to join the Grassroots Gathering of the Children and Nature Network. We worked with AMAZING folks from around the world who are trying to find that very same balance. Wonderful people are making fantastic things happen.
It seems like just yesterday my brother and I were gathered around the television watching the Captain Planet cartoon. I learned so much about the world and ways that I could help out. I would say that my own passion for volunteering came from this interesting cartoon. So I couldn’t help but smile (and snicker) while watching the following trailer for the upcoming Captain Planet live action movie.
Lots of thoughts come to mind… like “Man, I hope they fix that costume for that poor fella.”
or “Do we need enforcement of environmental laws at a personal level to make change happen?”
However, I also wonder if this simple reminder will inspire other kids, children of this new age, the way the Captain Planet cartoon did for me.
