This information taken from the Feeding America Southwest Virginia website:
|“September is Hunger Action Month|
1 in 6. That’s the number of Americans who will struggle with hunger today.
Throughout Hunger Action Month, Feeding America’s nationwide network of more than 200 food banks is calling upon communities to take action through the “30 Ways in 30 Days” campaign. Whether it’s by advocating and raising awareness, making donations, or giving of your time and energy, find the way that’s right for you to make a difference during Hunger Action Month.”
One of the most important features on the FASWVA website we have found is the Hunger Map. This allows the reader to check out hunger as an issue around the United States, but also to check out the statistics for your specific state. Looking at your state then allows you to connect to your local Feeding America foodbank.
We are hoping to do that ourselves this week. Check back later in the week as we tour our local foodbank. Consider how you can connect within your community. Hunger seems like such a simple thing to fix. Of course, that’s easy to say when we simply scraped our leftovers into the compost bucket tonight. I know that we are too blessed. Taking time this week has made us aware, as a family, how we can give back.
