With an active family of five to wrangle, homework, bath time and dinner to tackle, I made it my goal to get everyone settled in for a quick game night.  This is where Family Fun Night by Cynthia L. Copeland suggests you start.  Quick, fun and successful time together really doesn’t take a whole [...]

All afternoon, I envisioned the lovely, low-key evening that would be had at the Donahue house tonight.  My bike ride home from school gave me time to think over the night.  How could I make it the best?  Which idea would I take from the book, Family Fun Night?  And what was I going to [...]

After hearing about Cynthia Copeland’s new book, Family Fun Night, we decided that the Donahues needed to revamp our evenings.  Often times, for us, we get into a rut of afternoon snack, play time, homework, dinner and bedtime stories.  We went looking for a book that would offer suggestions for involving everyone in the family.  [...]

In my effort to keep kidsadventuring.org updated daily, I often read about something and add it here before I even speak with my wife about it.  This morning for example, I sent out a group e-mail to all the families on our KIVA list.  Seems that tomorrow is the first day of Turn Off Your [...]

Earth Day, WOW!

What an amazing day!  We hit the Grandin Village Earth Day celebration early.  We helped kids make seed planters using local organic soil, sunflower seeds and RoanokeOutside.com fliers. Fold those babies just right, and they make a fancy planter!

First, the day starts off at Grandin Village for their Earth Day 2010 events.  A family could stay in Grandin Village all day for all the fun they are planning!
Check out this link for more information.
We will be hosting a seed planting and nature hunt from about 10:15 - 11:30.  Hope to see you there.  [...]

The boys and I spent an afternoon exploring Hollins University, while the girls attended a meeting inside the wonderful library there.  The pictures tell the story.  Wildflowers rule!

The dragon never made it into the fortress!

I have been walking around all week with my little cell phone camera capturing these images and trying to look the wildflowers up to share a little bit of information.  I was hoping that it might spur you along to try it for yourself.  I got an e-mail from the very talented Jon Beard.
My shot:

His [...]

My littlest big kid and I got to go adventuring this afternoon!  You would only know how special this is, if you had three kids like me.  We walked all over the 45 feet of green space that is available in our hometown.  We tromped over a stream, tip-toed through the tulips and climbed into several different types of trees.  [...]

Continuing my challenge to find and photograph wildflowers every day this week.  I had the chance to walk the track again today, but only saw some old familiars.
I saw the mustard which is now a lovely, lovely reminder of our hike on the AT.  From Tinker Cliffs, we saw fields and fields of it.  [...]
